He was so much fun. I remember living with him & Glenn in Wilmette at the Harbor. Oscar loved doing everything that Glenn did; and if he was able to do it, he did it! Oscar even rock climbed with Glenn & his friends in Colorado (I think it was CO, if not, Glenn will let me know & I'll get my facts straight). He was quite a traveler. He loved to go outside and on walks. It was funny if we said "Milwaukee" in front of Oscar. He would hear "walk" in the word and jump up to go out. So after that we would ask him if he wanted to go to Milwaukee when it was walk time.

He loved swimming at the Harbor with his friend, Max. When Glenn was at school, I would ask Oscar if he wanted to go "simmin" and he would jump up and run down to the door. He would wait there until I said "Okay" and then he would jump up and pull down the handle to open the door. He would then run like crazy through the yacht club to the next door and wait again for the green light. Once he got outside he would tear down to the dock and jump in the water. He wouldn't get his head wet, though, and sometimes he didn't want to come out. One time Glenn and I had to take the dinghy all the way down to the Coast Guard station to get him!

Those are just a little bit of the memories I have of Okky. I will write more later.

He was beautiful and loving.

I miss Okky.

Oscar's harness

Oscar was a sled dog. Siberian Husky owners know what that means, but for those of you who never took Oscar for a walk, what that means is that you become the sled! When Oscar was wearing just a collar, he could generate several hundred pounds of force, and if he felt like choking himself, he could probably add another 20% to that. However, when Oscar had on his harness, then there was a multiplier to the several hundred pounds of force...may a 1.5X or 2X...but whatever it was, it was you that were being walked. And you knew it. When we lived in Wilmette Illinois, I used to make leashes for walking Oscar out of the same rope that we used to tie boats to their moorings. I added a clip so you could tie the rope around your waist. This was to keep him from pulling the leash out of your hands, and to keep your arm from getting ripped off. Oscar new when he was being walked by someone for the first time, and he would be well prepared. His goal was to see how fast he could pull you along. It was always ... hoooooooooooooooold onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!

M.C.
